Speaker: Mary Ann Lindley
Mary Ann Lindley is one of two At-Large Commissioners for Leon County. She was elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 2012 after resigning from a long career in journalism to run for public office. She was elected vice-chair of the BOCC, serving through 2014. As a county commissioner, she serves on boards of the Canopy Roads Advisory Committee, Community Redevelopment Agency, Capital Regional Transportation Planning Agency, Educational Facilities Authority and she serves as chair of the Transportation Disadvantaged Coordinating Board and the Leon County Enterprise Zone. Lindley became a journalist at age 16, starting with summer jobs at a weekly newspaper in a small prairie town in Missouri. Commissioner Lindley earned her degree in journalism at the University of Missouri and moved to Florida soon thereafter. In her professional career she was a columnist, reporter and editorial page editor of the Tallahassee Democrat. a political writer and capital bureau chief for the New York Times Florida Newspaper Group, and a legislative editor at the Miami Herald. Among her community activities, she currently serves on the board of directors of the Capital Tiger Bay Club and has been a lay member of the 2nd Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee and the U.S. Federal Court Magistrate Selection Committee. In 2011, she was one of 12 women leaders around the world invited by the government of Taiwan to participate in a women's issues program and tour of that nation. Lindley, who is married to Charlie Nuzzo, has been honored as the Florida Public Relations Association's Communicator of the Year, the recipient of the national Knight-Ridder Jim Batten Excellence Award, and she has won numerous writing awards during her career as a journalist, which included serving as president of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.
