Community Service
Business & Professional Women/Tallahassee builds powerful women professionally, personally, and politically. Community service is a vital building block in achieving that mission. BPW/Tallahassee is dedicated to helping women in our community succeed. In addition to sponsoring the Florida State University BPW Scholarship House on campus, we also sponsor quarterly community service projects specifically geared to build powerful women in the Big Bend area.
For first quarter 2010, we teamed up with the Zonta Club of Tallahassee to collect new towel and twin sheet sets for women seeking shelter at the Refuge House, a local safe haven for victims of domestic and sexual violence. When women and their children ready to leave the Refuge House and reenter society, they often do so with nothing of their own. These towel and sheet sets will give them something to take with them as they build a new life free of abuse.
If you would like to participate in the community service project, bring new towel or twin sheet sets to any BPW event. Or, you may donate money, and the BPW/Tallahassee Community Service Chair Melanie Murdock will purchase on your behalf. An event entitled "Sip and Shop" is scheduled in March. We will meet at a local restaurant for dinner and drinks and then shop for towels and sheets. If you are interested in participating in that event, check the calendar page for date and time.
