November 2009 President’s Message
Final greetings from the BPW/Tallahassee president!
It is with gladness and sadness that I bring my final message as president to the members of BPW/Tallahassee. My term ends April 30, and you will embark on an adventure with a new president, who I am certain will continue to lead and guide BPW/Tallahassee in greatness. I am excited to report that I leave my post as BPW president having seen two years of enormous growth in our local organization.
As I rotate to immediate past president, let me give a huge shout out to several awesome individuals.
Yolanda Miranda-Hill, cofounder of BPW/Tallahassee and annual women’s conference chair extraordinaire: Thank you for getting me involved with BPW. Without it, I wouldn’t be the successful entrepreneur I am today. Your friendship means the world to me.
Deanna Mims, vice president and fellow entrepreneur: I am so glad our paths crossed. You inspire me, you teach me, you lead me, you guide me, and most of all…you taught me that cool breathing trick when I’m stressed out and anxious.
Cathy Hopkins, secretary and comic relief: I am glad our paths crossed after so many years. You bring much needed comic relief during stressful board meetings, and I’m glad we’ve rekindled our friendship.
Necia Little, treasurer and life saver: Thank you for joining BPW this year and for jumping in with both feet. You are a calm in my daily storm, and you remind me there is no reason to get frantic or nervous. Thank you also for encouraging me to take better care of myself. Were it not for you, I may have had serious health problems in my future.
Anne Price, my incredible mother as well as sister in BPW: What can I say that you don’t already know? You are the bomb of all mothers, sisters, friends. You have been there for me for many years, and as you move into the next stage of life, I will be there for you.
Diane Patchen, original FSU BPW Scholarship House resident and scrapbook maker extraordinaire: Thank you for your service to our club. Your memory making has preserved our history and won us several statewide awards. You have a talent that you put to use to further our mission, and we appreciate you for that.
Jenny Abdelnour, THE most incredible PR chair ever: Through tough times in your life, you not only continued your service to BPW and its members, but you did it with grace and dignity. You are an example to all women.
FSU BPW Scholarship House Ladies: My, my, my what you ladies have taught me. All I can say is you all have bright, promising futures ahead of you, and I’m proud to say I had a hand in that.
Marcy Collins, the rock: You’ve been there almost from the beginning. Thank you for always stepping up, stepping out, and being strong even through tough life circumstances. You will do well in your new leadership role.
Jennifer Martin, almost charter member and long-time friend: I watched you through pregnancy, and now I watch as you enjoy being a beautiful wife and mother. Good luck in your business adventure. I know you will be successful, and your children will be proud of you.
Male members, Mark, Jeff, Tony, Boyd, and Rick: Wow, what strong men you are to step up and join a women’s group. There is hope in the future of the ERA and equality in Florida and the United States through men like you.
The Women in Business ladies from FSU: You are a reminder that what we are doing, what we stand for, the message we fight to deliver is for a cause. We welcome your involvement. We look forward to serving as your mentors. We look forward to learning from you and growing with you.
To all other members and especially to the brand new members who’ve joined in the past few months: We thank you for sharing your talents, your abilities, your willingness to join with those of us who have been around in Tallahassee since 2006 and countrywide since 1919 in building powerful women professionally, personally, and politically. You are an example to other women in our community. You are Business and Professional Women!
Remember, well behaved women rarely make history. Business & Professional Women are making history.
